Today we continue in our series ‘Back to Basics’ and take a look at gifts of the Spirit. Sometimes there is confusion between the gifts of the Spirit and the Fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is what every Christian is expected to bear and Galatians 5:22-23 describe that fruit that ought to be evident in the life of the one who walks in the light of the Word.
The Gifts of the Spirit are gifts given by God to the individual. We do not all have the same gift nor are we expected to but God distributes them according to His will (1 Cor. 12:11) and He expects us to use them. They are given for the common good of the church (1 Cor. 12:7) and He has distributed them where He wants them so that the whole church is built up and His name is glorified.
So the question is, if God has given His children gifts to use, are we using them? Maybe the first question is, do we know what gifts God has given us because if God has given us gifts to use, then we can be certain that that will be what we will be judged on when we come before Him? Not knowing will not be an excuse and knowing and not doing anything about it will not look so good either, But God has not hidden them from us and there are ways of not only finding out, but of using them effectively for Him.
Today is a great day to evaluate how we are all doing because the reality is that when we are all doing what God has gifted us to do, the church functions smoothly and effectively and people will come to know Him.
